The Inauguration of Joe Biden and our first female of color, Kamala Harris will take place in less than five hours and I am pondering all of the drastic changes and challenges to our country in the last four years. Biden is poised to become the 46th president of the United States, and takes the helm of a nation that hasn’t been this deeply divided since the Civil War. He will inherit an assortment of crises that could arguably be labeled the worst ever seen when viewed individually — but Biden and his team now face the entire cluster of emergencies, left in the wake of Donald Trump, representing the biggest failures ever seen by an occupant of the White House.
Soon, we will all witness a ceremony like no other in presidential history, where power will be transferred to a successor without his predecessor even acknowledging or accepting his arrival. The beautiful tradition of an American Presidential Inauguration will be juxtaposed against the urgency of the pandemic and a nation still reeling from an insurrectionist siege of the US Capitol, when an outgoing president incited his followers to overthrow his own government.
Many things are amiss: we are worried about security like never before, we were told to stay home on a day and in a city that typically rejoices in it’s celebration in the streets for a new administration and most importantly, we are desperate as many of us have lost our jobs, incomes and lives. More than 400,000 Americans have died under Trump’s watch, but he couldn’t kill our spirit. The driving patriotic force that fuels most Americans to believe that more is always possible has not been vanquished and on days like today, hope is more than just a beautiful concept. Today, when Donald Trump leaves office, despite his many insidious attempts to retain power and destroy our very democracy, and the person we fairly elected rightfully takes his place, you can snatch hope up in your very own hands and see that it is as real as it is powerful.

Some of us don’t follow directions well. I’m here thanking the troops and beating witness to what happens when we allow an disordered, drug addicted despot with dementia and indebtedness to Putin and his merry band of mad makers to grace Our House. Don’t say his name. Boycott his brand and all those associated with it. Smoke out those who would harm us and our fragile democracy. Make them pay the ultimate price: banishment from civil society at the end of their prison terms. Never ever forget. We dodged a silver, no, a garish golden bullet. Wake up each day with a new appreciation fir what we’ve got. Cherish it. Protect it always. Be grateful. 💜
I am incredibly excited that in just over 3 1/2 hours, we will for the first time be able to say "Madame Vice-President". Hopefully, in a few years, we will also be able to say "Madam President" as well!
I am crossing my fingers and toes that the next 5 hours go by without an incident and that the ceremony goes off without a hitch and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. I am so excited, I can not work today. I'm wishing it was cocktail hour now and I don't even drink!! Could we have gotten through all this crap without Shero and Randy Rainbow? NO! Thanks Amee!
I wish Joe and Kamala all the best. They have a monumental task in front of them, so much damage has been done. At noon, I know, I will be crying, but for the right reason. Let the healing begin.
I'm go glad, excited and appreciative of Joe and Kamala and Dr. Jill and Doug and all the 81,281,891 who voted for them and for this transition and this new, hopeful chapter in American history. And for the Constitution. Fortunately, our founders developed a system to protect democracy and ultimately, added women and people of color to participate in democracy and today, an African-American, South Asian woman will be Vice President of the United States and the tie-breaking vote in the Senate.
