A Big Change at SHERO
In an effort to bolster our commitment to providing quality independent journalism for everyone, SHERO will now be free to anyone.
When I started SHERO five years ago I was excited to find out what kind of newsletter I could build. It was critical to me to create a place where readers who were interested in the facts could have the legal and political dots of an issue connected in a way that was insightful and reliable. I also wanted to make sure that I pursued a strong female perspective in a field where men are still at the forefront of the conversation, which is why SHERO is about covering news that impacts women, but affects everyone.
This is a critical time for how we consume information. Larger media outlets have continued to gloss over the truth in an attempt to overcorrect on the appearance of impartiality. Social media outlets, like X, have become difficult to navigate and impossible to trust. It is more important than ever that the public has access to journalism that is accurate and honest, but does not shy away from presenting the hard-hitting truth about where the events of today will actually take us tomorrow.
The last few years have shown that the demand for online news consumption is changing, and it is getting harder to access information that is as reliable as it is interesting — that is essential and also forthright. The way in which I consume my own news has changed remarkably in the past few years. I no longer start my day with previously traditional sources. The main stream media, driven by a ruthless financial model, has completely lost touch with where things currently stand and what is actually at stake.
To this end, I have decided to combat our epidemic of disinformation by providing my SHERO newsletter for free. In order to mirror the drastic times we are in, I will be implementing drastic measures to ensure anyone on the internet can access any article I publish. Times are difficult for many, and the last thing anyone who is nobly searching out accurate content needs to deal with is another paywall. Starting today, each and every SHERO post I make will be completely free to anyone on the internet.
My goal is to grow SHERO into a place where anyone can go to check in on what they may have missed, or what they need to know. I want this newsletter to be a first stop for everyone who needs answers they can trust. We can grow now if we work together and your involvement in helping to provide independent journalism for everyone is essential. So, this kind of newsletter model, which will now be free to all, will work best if subscribers now make their own investment in our future by upgrading their SHERO membership to paid.
We are just getting started and I am excited to see how many people SHERO can reach by banishing the paywall forever. Please consider joining me in helping to grow SHERO and thank you for being a part of this wonderful community. Now let’s get going because we have a lot of work to do.
Hold hands and stick together,
Amee
Amee Vanderpool writes the SHERO Newsletter, is an attorney, published author, contributor to newspapers and magazines, and an analyst for BBC radio. She can be reached at avanderpool@gmail.com or follow her on Twitter @girlsreallyrule.
Paid subscriptions and one-time tributes embedded in each article allow me to keep publishing critical and informative work that is sometimes made available to the public — thank you. If you like this piece and want to support independent journalism further, you can forward this article to others, get a paid subscription or gift subscription, or donate as much as you like today.
I will continue to be a paid subscriber. Go get 'em, Amee!
I am so pleased you can make this leap. I'll continue to read and, when able, support you financially. I live in a very red state and your journalism brings a special insight. Thank you, Joseph.
