Big Concerns for State Election Officials in 2024
Conservative states have implemented a narrative to justify a mass exit from the non-profit system that has secured election integrity for years, following a special Heritage Foundation conference.
Top state election officials headed to Washington for their annual summer conference of the National Association of Secretaries of State earlier this month to address top concerns for voting ahead of the 2024 election. Among the biggest concerns addressed were the ongoing efforts to mislead the public about the voting and election process as we head into another election cycle.
Many Secretaries of State have confirmed the pressing priority of correcting general misinformation and the need to combat the emergence of artificial intelligence that furthers that false content. Additional concerns included a lack of staffing, and the recent loss of experienced leaders to oversee the election process at the local level.
While all of these concerns appear to be at issue in most states, what has continued to fly under the radar in mainstream media is the plan, backed by conservative election leaders at the state level, to continue private meetings to institute a separate side-agenda. In February of this year, four months before the annual conference for all Secretaries of State, the conservative Heritage Foundation held a two-day conference on "current election law issues."
