Over-the-Counter Birth Control Pills: Thanks, Republicans!
On Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration approved the oral contraceptive "Opill" for over-the-counter sales, making hormonal contraception more widely available for women.
For the first time in United States history, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a birth control pill to be sold without a prescription, which will substantially expand access to contraception. The medication, called Opill, has a manufacturer that is based in Dublin, Ireland, and once it is available in stores and online in early 2024, it will become the most effective form of birth control available without a prescription.
