Gun Violence This Week

There were five separate mass shooting events in the United States this past week, where four people were killed, and 21 were injured.

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 11 cases of hantavirus and three deaths linked to an outbreak on a cruise ship, and despite monitoring 41 people for hantavirus, there are currently no cases in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

  • A Republican proposal to fund $1 billion in security additions for the White House campus and the new ballroom was attempted by the GOP, but it failed to meet procedural rules, according to the Senate parliamentarian, dealing a blow to Republican plans to include it as part of a bill to fund immigration enforcement agencies for the next three years.

  • FBI Director Kash Patel ordered the polygraphing of more than two dozen former and current members of his security detail, as well as other staff, and has been described as being in panic mode to save his job and find leakers among his team, according to two people briefed on the development.
