I admit I am one who left Twitter on Saturday. Joined in 2009 and although I got a lot out of it, before, I could no longer support it. I left Facebook over a year ago and am without social media at this time.
Shero and other newsletters will have to be enough for now.
Musk is clearly brilliant and bold but his utter lack of social skills and isolation in his own head and his nerd community is a clear and present danger to the republic. I have used Twitter mostly for the immediacy of news and commentary from truly informed people and I will miss that. Once the election is over next week, I'm out. I downloaded my extensive Twitter data - not sure why but I don't want him to have it - and now I am ready to emigrate to something more in line with my political, social, and economic views. IMO, the platform is doomed: when there are only predators in a given space, the space becomes a coliseum of hate and advertisers will flee en masse. Its value will freefall. I'll enjoy watching that.
I think that Twitter's descent into becoming Truth Social 2 has already begun.
Just waiting until some former Twitter peeps start a new social media site, and once they do, I'm gone. I don't need to read right wing BS or live in that echo chamber. If I did, I'd have already joined Truth Social, Gab, or Parler, etc..........
I'm waiting to see what other apps are going to appear that will serve the same purpose. I know that there are some in development but I'm not sure which will be viable. In the meantime, I'm staying on Twitter. Musk is an asshat - he always has been and always will be. I think he bit off more than he could chew here and, when he realized it and got backed into a corner, he had to purchase Twitter. I loathe him, and all those who are like him who see money as power, and more money as more power. And, while that's true to an extent, it is precisely those people who shouldn't have power.

It just seems that giving the world's richest man one of the world's loudest microphones is a horrible idea. But should we expect any less from a country that allows an Australian megalomaniac to control the most popular news channel and a middle-aged college kid to run Facebook? Maybe this will be the death of Twitter, that is the best possible outcome. Anything else that involves Musk's childish hand will be like his crappy cars, an accident waiting to happen.
I really loved your comment about Musk appearances on SNL. Made me laugh. And his attack on Hillary about Nancy Pelosi‘s husband was pretty disgusting really I just can’t understand why someone would do that. And I really like the way you summed up what Twitter should be, and used to be.

I will pick up the slack for now.
Fuck him!

I heard he was heavily funded by the Saudis.
Is that true, and don't you think it is noteworthy?
