I absolutely agree, convicting Trump because he committed multiple impeachable offenses, none less serious that inciting a mob to violence to attempt to retain power (just a few days after he threatened the GA Sec of State with criminal prosecution if he didn't manufacture 11,780 votes).

I don't really think Trump would win in 2024 even if he ran, but that is entirely beside the point. "Right matters". It mattered in the first impeachment and it matters just as much now.

Sad that Cult45 is so hellbent on protecting him. Rubio did a Medium article explaining his vote and tacitly admitting Trump committed an impeachable offense and said that just because he committed an impeachable offense doesn't mean convicting him is in the best interest of the country because half of the country would see it as a coupe d'etat. Yeah, look where that thinking left us.

He said that a vote to convict Trump would be a vote to remove him from office. Yes, that's right and to make Mike Pence POTUS, who when the chips were down chose the Constitution over DJT. Isn't that what "republicanism" is supposed to mean? But, unfortunately, almost the entire party, besides 10 in the House and 5 in the Senate, is at the moment RINO and the cult of Trump. They don't believe in republicanism. They don't believe, as you mentioned, in "conservative ideals it purports to represent."

In his closing argument before the House vote in the first impeachment, Rep. Schiff characterized the gravamen of the GOP argument as "why should we care". He then said "The Party of Ronald Reagan cared." The GOP needs to get out of the toxic partisan politics Newt Gingrich ushered in and do what's right because it is right.

I’m lucky I never have to press my Senators to do the right thing because they are Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith! And my Rep, Dean Phillips, gave an amazing speech before the MTG vote. ☺️

The one concern I have is that given the current SCOTUS would be be able to win a double jeopardy claim if the Justice Dept. latter chooses to bring criminal charges? (Here's to hoping they do, BTW.)
