My mom called me with her serious tone that tells me something terrible has happened and I held my breath. “I just mailed the box, Aim,” she said in a hushed and hesitant tone. “It cost over $80.00 and I just…” I didn’t let her finish before I launched into a tirade of disbelief that no doubt included several expletives. Since I had to cancel my trip home for my birthday, I had asked her to forward some deliveries that had been sitting at her house for months now and told her I would pay for it. She apparently added some surprises into that box, but I did not expect a shipping fee this big.
Everyone needs to check with your local election precinct and ask if mail-in ballots can be dropped off during early voting. I’m not counting on the USPS this year; I’ll drop mine right at City Hall.
Let me start out by saying I think the USPS is a vital agency and we need to do all we can to save it. But I know that $80 hurt! Last December I went to the Post Office to mail a package to my niece in California. It was 12" x 12" and weighed 13 lbs. The cost was $68! I was astounded. I've mailed enough packages over the years to know that the cost had gone up by 100%. I had a talk with the clerk at the counter, and told him I thought the post office was gouging customers to subsidize lower shipping fees for companies like Amazon. He said, "Especially with those free returns." It made me realize that consumers, who already pay dozens of obscure taxes and costs to subsidize corporate America, are subsidzing Jeff Bezos' cost of doing business. That said, yes, this is one more way Trump is trying to steal the election. I cannot believe it has come to this. If the Dems don't capitalize on this, ("Americans, did you fail to get your medicine on time? Thanks to President Trump...)
Trumputin's scuttling of the USPS - that's what's happening - is just one vector of his plan to de-legitimize the presidential election results in November. It's a strategy - not likely his creation, but he gets the credit - to crush turnout by inserting doubt into the minds of voters, by having Republican states close thousands of voting sites to make it hard for assumed Democratic voters to cast ballots and impose arbitrary rules for registering to vote and arbitrarily culling voter rolls. He knows Russia is going to double-down on efforts to corrupt the election results because he gave Putin the gift of removing 12,500 US troops from Germany. McConnell has blocked any funding for securing elections for months now and it would be too late to do much now if he let the bills come to a vote.
I am not confident at all that the election will be fair. He wants to stay in the WH to avoid federal prosecutions for various crimes; if he does, Barr will soon after have excuses to round up any opposition folks, including protesters, and we'll be full-on fascist US at that point. My only legitimate hope is that his unhealthy lifestyle and diminished capacity combine to remove him from office.

The USPSknows how to do their job, they have a creed. So in this case IDJIT IS DEFINITELY stirring the pot. Think of what they handle over the holidays vs voters who wish a mail in ballot. It’s not only going to be big cities that are effected Or Blue states, I live in a tiny village with a Post Office , Gas Station and pizza joint. Guess which is busiest? So sad because before the 80$ box the USPS is one of the best bargains around,and the Postal Stamp Commissioners have been way ahead of on social issues in the stamps approved than any other agency. Next time you are in the Post Office check out the stamps don’t just buy a roll of Flags buy a sheet of very accurate history or support a cause like Breast Cancer or AIDS. I've recently moved to a new home previously inhabited by a major Trump supporter. So, propaganda mail from RNC, Donald Trump Jr., the NRA, etc. arrives daily, yet my regular mail and packages are delayed. Trump and friends aren't even trying to hide their voter suppression attempts. Happy Belated Birthday ~ may you celebrate 2021 on the crest of a blue wave!🌊
1) I have zero--ZERO--doubt that DeJoy is actively working to undermine confidence in the postal service so as to create the exact type of crisis that the Mango Menace has warned would happen.
2) I fear greatly that it will work. Trump's supporters are so brainwashed that they accept uncritically every single thing that he says. Period.
3) This is but one component of the Republican plan to steal the election. What's more alarming is that Democrat leaders seem by and large oblivious to what's going on, or they (proverbially) shrug their shoulders and say, "What can we do?" That's simply not enough. There needs to be a Congressional inquiry RIGHT NOW into what is going on with the Postal Service. This needs to be brought to the public's attention because too many people simply don't know about it.
So the USPS is getting democracy squeezed from its veins by the American authoritarian president. This is worth another march. The first post master general was Ben Franklin. Voter suppression is going to go amuck.
We are watching them in plain sight to cheat in the 2020 election. I don't see how it continues to work. We know that Barr will lie in October, that Johnson and Grassley have a bogus report about Hunter Biden and don't forget the K. West bull, we are watching it in real time. We need to let DT and CO know we aren't going to put up with it. I am really over these people.
Here in KY we've experienced a severe slow down in mail. Back in June, for the primary, we received our ballots on the 18th and they had to be in by the 23rd. We had to drive to courthouse to drop them off so they would be there in time. We have gone days without mail. Calling our local PO, they did blame the new guy, with his "new directions". We will, once again, drive our ballots to the courthouse drop box. I do not trust the USPS and I feel there will be 1,000s of ballots "found" after the election! The USPS is a vital service, but right now it is being manipulated to help tRump win.
I will be voting in person, I don’t trust ANY of this anymore. I would sooner take my chances with Covid than the chance Cheeto-tator gets re-elected.
They need to legislate an end to his powers.. just criminally charge him. It was a damn MEMO, based nowhere in law. Arrest him. This is WHY we have a damned VP.
