On Jan 13, just one week after Donald Trump’s attempted coup on his own government to remain in power, then-Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy stood on the house floor and told the truth, seemingly for the last time.
Succinct, timely observations, as well as prescient warnings of what is to come should rational beings do nothing to prevent this. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, and that sane-minded people call out the GOP's antics for what they are - anti-democratic and dangerous.
Sadly, this is a column that I think I could have written. It seems like the Trumpies have become even more emboldened, most likely because their Dear Leader was not penalized in any way for the insurrection he provoked (or anything else he has done, for that matter). I greatly fear more violence.
I feel it may have to come down to a peaceful, civil, demonstration and use our loud voices to drive a wedge between Trump and his hold on our government. I don't understand why we don't use demonstrations to voice our anger and frustration at those who refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated. What I've seen on Twitter over the past six months has been more of who can achieved celebrity status (what is your favorite movie; what is the best song of 1980..), diluting good political rapport. That's something I can't change, but I do believe our voices could be louder.
