I realize that this is a rhetorical question, but the lawyer in me can't resist: they will argue that they were serving in their capacity as federal employees and all of the actions in question were done in their official capacity rather than for political gain. I don't think they will succeed, but we will have a much better idea about this after the judge ruling for Meadows comes down.
