I grew up in Canada, though I have now spent most of my life in the U.S. In that time, I have never understood the American gun fetish. We lose thousands of people a year to gun violence, far more than any other western country, and yet those deaths barely result in the proverbial "shrug of the shoulders" by most Americans. In fact, with each mass killing, those opposing any further gun control become even more strident and hostile to any limitations on gun purchases, and they seek to attack the already weak restrictions in effect in most states.
Maybe it's a failing on my part, but I don't get, and I don't think that I ever will.

Republicans need to have these events brutally shoved in their faces and answers demanded about how to address this epidemic.
