A draft Supreme Court opinion indicates the Supreme Court is preparing to strike down Roe v. Wade and a reckoning is coming for the women who protest abortion and then secretly procure one.
You are 100% correct, but the thing is, I can definitely see a future where those of wealth and means simply pay for those close to them to fly (or drive) wherever it is closest geographically to them to get an abortion. So, they may not care as much as you think if they can afford to go wherever abortion remains legal to get the procedure done.
I'll add this: I actually read the entire opinion authored by Justice Alito, and its scope is breathtaking (in a terrible way). This will not end with Roe v. Wade being overturned. Based on the logic of the majority, Obergefell is dead letter law and will be overruled as soon as the "right case" reaches the Supreme Court. Griswold and Loving are also very much in danger (hmmmm, I wonder again how Clarence Thomas will feel about allowing laws that would make his own marriage illegal in a big chunk of the country?). I wouldn't even say that Brown v. Board of Education is safe.
And next up for the MAGA/Evangelical crowd? If the Republicans take the White House in 2024 and are in control of the House and Senate, you can be 100% sure that we will see them try to pass a national ban on abortion (again, those with the money will pay for those close to them to travel to Mexico or Canada or wherever to get an abortion if they want one). What about the filibuster (in the Senate), you ask? I say, just watch how quickly the Evil Turtle or whoever is in charge of the Senate at that point does away with it in order get a bill like that through because, unlike the Democrats, the Republicans don't concern themselves with silliness like bipartisanship and/or cooperation. They play to win. Period. Don't believe me? Just watch what happens over the next few years...............
The prevalent gamesmanship in politics saddens me. I miss the days (daze) when we voted as we believed: IF that ever existed. The last time this happened I retreated to the ocean.
I really REALLY hope you are right. I worry that these religious secretive women feel so guilty about what they probably think are transgressions, that they vote against their interests. We’ve heard so many stories about people on the right who are willing to do that. It’s not exactly the same but I keep thinking about Texans where Gov Abbott encouraged power companies to raise their rates during the 2019 snow storm, he recently caused the loss of $4 billion during his recent border inspections stunt, and well, y’all know about the TX abortion bill….and yet, he’s still leading in the polls against Beto…
I like women better than MOST men: by and large they're more intelligent, better educated and emotionally stable. What you refer to as faith, I think of as hope.
I’m confused about this sentence near the end of the article:
“My goal in this is not to out the hypocrisy of the behavior, but to point out that these women who are statistically procuring abortions at a rate higher than most, will do when access really becomes threatened.”
I worked in hospitals all through college and prior to grad school as a pharmacy Tech. Your research is spot on Amee, because in the most Catholic state in the Nation I saw more D&Cs ( aka Tops) in the Catholic hospital I worked at, almost all young married white Catholic orProtestant women
"Conservatives think they have mostly white women in their party behind them on the issue of abortion restrictions that limit Roe v. Wade.." This may be true but it's hard to argue with the conservative assumption since white women continue to vote for republicans who proudly claim they intend to aim to take down abortion rights. I live in North Texas and it wasn't just white men who sent the Abbott regime to Austin or gave Trump the win twice or sent Canadian Ted to DC.
Have you adjusted your data to be proportional to representations generally in population? Stating that one race or religious affiliation dominates a statistic means one thing if it is weighted according to the percentage of that group in the general population and something quite different if it is not.

It exists and it's why I do this work. Have faith, friend.
Thank you, for the work you do so well! I have always called “faith” HOPE. 🎶🦋🌈❤️

I’m wondering if the “that” should be a “what”?
