The January 6 House Select Committee concluded its eighth hearing last night after giving the world a nearly three hour presentation of the excruciating details of the 187 minutes in which then-President Donald Trump purposely refused to act. The committee was precise: Trump finished his speech at the Ellipse, told his supporters to march to the Capitol, was back in the Oval Office within minutes, and he knew every excruciating detail of the siege and the ongoing violence almost immediately. The only thing Donald Trump did was watch the television coverage with glee and tweet incendiary comments about Mike Pence.
US seem to be descending into fascist, terrorist, criminal jogger jokes, which are funny, of course, but the laughter is getting somewhat strained. Take all citizen rights from every gop, as a matter of critical national security.
I thought that Josh Hawley was a mewling, cowardly, seditious creep BEFORE last night. That video footage cemented my impression. Yet, Missouri being what it is, he will win reelection comfortably when he runs again.
With each passing day, we come closer to realizing how perilously close the country came to losing democracy on 1/6. The truly scary thing is that we are still teetering on the edge of that precipice. Even despite what we know now, Trump is set to announce that he will run again in 2024, and he would instantly become the Republican frontrunner, and even worse than THAT, he would stand a very good chance of winning.
When I moved to the US in 1991, I never in my worst nightmares envisioned what is going on now.
