Sugar Rush Water Gush
A playlist with a retro vibe to help you get maximum chill over the July 4th holiday
Your paid subscriptions and one-time tributes to SHERO allow me to continue publishing on this critical issue and provide information to the public, so please consider purchasing one today. As always, thank you for taking the time to read and support my work here at SHERO and for helping to provide independent journalism for everyone.
I appreciate you.
Hello! More importantly, welcome to summer. I made this playlist for you to celebrate the Fourth of July, but more than that, I made it to celebrate that time in childhood when everything was innocent and our biggest worries were making sure we had the right hoops to go with that new fluorescent “Choose Life” WHAM! t-shirt.
For me, the 4th means middle America and fireworks and the summers I spent with my Dad. I don’t typically embrace this holiday because I miss him so much still, but this year I am turning the tables on that sadness and trying to embrace the important things from that time — safety, exuberance, and an imagination that wouldn’t quit. I am pretty sure I captured the vibe of my younger days fairly well and I know I say this every time, but this might be my best playlist yet!
Happy Fourth of July everyone! SHERO will be taking next week off so that we can celebrate and enjoy friends and family. Here’s to celebrating with a sense of lightness and hopeful dreams for the future.

Oh the memories. I remember the anticipation as my sister Kelli and I laid on the floor In front of the TV. Waiting anxiously as the screen was a white static blur. Our mom’s confusion as she asked why we were watching a channel with nothing on it. “We’re waiting mom. Any minute now a new channel starts.” (Or something to that effect.) Then out of the air appeared MTV and the first video ever played “Video Killed the Radio Star.” A great moment indeed. Thanks for sharing a great list Amee. Have a wonderful and safe vacation. We await your return.
Thanks Amee. Have a safe holiday. I will not be partaking. Not much to celebrate. However, I absolutely love your playlist. It takes me back to my high school and college days. -Chrysta
