Excellent piece! Thank you for talking about an important issue that I have not heard brought up by one other reporter. MSM has plenty of blame for Biden’s exit and very little criticism for all of his predecessors and no one has mentioned the responsibility Congress has for this mess. Thank you again Amee.

No reason to wonder why Capitol Hill remained silent, check the deposits to their accounts. Arming the globe is a lucrative business with room at the “trough” for all the piggies!

Bush and Cheneyhalliburton seized upon American fear and anger after 9/11. And a war is always a great way to test and exploit patriotism. A fearful society is putty in the hands. They played it almost as if the whole thing, including 9/11, was planned by the Project for a New American Century. Although I can't believe that, since that would be a psychopathic right wing power grab. Subsequently, it was a breeze to then pointlessly mosey on over to shock and awe Iraq (remember Rumsfeld? "Not enough targets in Afghanistan.") What's puzzling, as the MSM bashes Biden regardless of the facts surrounding the withdrawal, is that NONE of them seem to have the desire to chat with Bush or his administration minions to ask "Seriously, what was up with invading Afghanistan - as opposed to tracking down the terrorists, Munich-style?" So they got away with it.

Your honest reporting makes this a must-read. We would not have been in that war nor the Iraq invasion if it had not been for the lies told to the public by our government officials. There must be accountability so we do not end up in future campaigns where the outcome is mass death and debt.

Thanks again Amee.

Hi Ms. Vanderpool, Thank you for itemizing the deadly serious cost of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and contrasted it with the Vietnam War. It is absurd to not compare these two theaters, their costs, their human toll. Ultimately the U.S. Congress has allowed for a spend-crazy war machine behavior.Iowa Gov. Robert D. Ray brought two groups to Iowa to resettle. Our current Governor has chosen to ignore
