In a last-minute hearing, scheduled by the committee just hours before it took place, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, provided the world with an intimate look inside the workings of the West Wing, leading up to and on the day of January 6, 2021. She relayed details about then-President Trump’s personal behavior and erratic actions, and she implicated Donald Trump and others, in a criminal conspiracy to attack the US Capitol.

Donald Trump has since issued denials of nearly all of the allegations made at Tuesday’s hearing and he also took to his Truth Social account — the social media platform that he created to disparage those who oppose him — to try and discredit her testimony by calling her “negative” and “a phony.”

Hutchinson began her testimony by explaining that she first became genuinely worried about what could happen on Jan. 6 four days prior on Jan. 2, when she was escorting Trump campaign attorney Rudy Giuliani out of the White House and to his car. Giuliani asked Hutchinson if she was excited for Jan. 6, and then proceeded to tell her the following: “We’re going to the Capitol. It’s going to be great. The president’s going to be there. He’s going to look powerful.”
