Fantastic column then; fantastic now as well. Cruz and Hawley are truly the "worst of the worst" (though we shouldn't forget about lesser lights like Rand Paul, Roger Marshall and Ron Johnson, etc.). What's even more terrifying is that it is quite likely that they will play a large role in the next Senate if, as predicted, the Republicans retake control. As I write this, polls show Hershel Walker with a steady four-point lead in the polls in Georgia, and the Republicans are well-positioned to take Senate seats in Nevada and Arizona. Our democracy is hanging by the slimmest of threads. Hawley, Cruz, et als., would happily cut that thread if it meant them keeping power permanently and "owning the Libs".

What hope do we have when the DOJ and the Manhattan DA won't press charges against Trump?

Cruz and Hawley and Green know they can do anything they like because Trump has done worst. Before the Blame was "The Republicans" controls congress, now the DA changed their mind. Here is the sad truth. If you are a White Male in Politics, you can break any law. The punishment will be none to a possible slap on the wrist.

Excellent, and somewhat prescient, article, Amee! Am I alone in hoping that Merrick Garland is merely biding his time until closer to the mid-terms to pull the trigger on charges against the most egregious insurrectionists? Is this a fool's hope? Damn I hope not... or, at the very LEAST, that the 1/6 Select Committee will hold televised hearings JUST before the mid-terms in order to showcase the insurrectionists in the GOP. Something, somewhere has to show ALL the people the dark side of what the GOP intends to accomplish should they win control! I had no clue that, in the twilight of my life, I would be facing the end of democracy itself. :/

Sadly, it just keeps applying as we move forward...

I know we're supposed to be patient, that there are things going on that we may not be privy to, & trust in Merrick Garland & the DOJ to do their job, but I'm just about at the end of my tether waiting for any shred of evidence that that will happen. Hawley, Cruz, Greene, Boebert & the rest will continue to chip away at the foundation of our democracy like waves against a rocky shore or me with this bag of pre 10 AM Doritos, & I feel we really should see more being done to stop that from happening.
