First of all, Amee, I'm so relieved to read that you are okay. Yesterday's events horrified me, but I can't say that they shocked me. As you noted, the words of the Republicans over the last few years (and especially the last couple of months) essentially invited this type of situation. I had predicted to several friends that what happened yesterday was inevitable, and I was told in not so many words that I was nuts, that I was a catastrophist and alarmist, and that all would be well. Did people not hear what that Orange Turd has been saying even before he was elected the first time? He inspired violence and he WANTED violence, all to gratify his pathetic ego. CNN was reporting that he was holed up in the White House, practically gloating over what was going on. What kind of sick f-ck does something like that? And, what does it say about the current Republican Party that so many of its members are okay with this? What does it say about this country that over 74 million of us saw the complete sh-t show that the past four years have been and said, "Yeah, I want four more years of THAT!"

Sorry for the long, rambling dissertation. I just never imagined in the 30 years that I have lived in this country that we would ever see a scene like we saw yesterday. So, let me end on a happy note: Raphael Warnock won. Jon Ossoff won. Mitch McConnell will very soon be the Senate MINORITY leader.

I'm so glad you're ok!!!

I was numb, watching TV, yesterday. We are "that" country. I fear the next 12 days and especially inauguration day. I really hope Joe takes the oath of office inside. I really hope I am wrong, but these terrorists are totally unhinged. I don't think we've seen the last of them. Every single GOP who helped get here, we will not forget.

Be safe Amee!❤

Amee - While I follow you I had no real idea where you lived. I have only been to DC a few times in my life. A tourist form California, once for work. When there I made a visit to the Capital, where it was described as The People's House. I always liked that. A connection to our history. I had never really thought of the fact that there are folks who live there, their town. The violation of the People's House was also a violation of a person's neighborhood. I am happy that you are safe. I am happier that you've worked to keep all of us safe through your writing. Stay safe and keep doing the good work for the people.

I am happy that you are well. I enjoy your writing mind you it is too bad that you had to be writing about this in the first place. The rest of the world is taking serious lessons at the expense of the American experience right now--but fear not, we, your Allies and friends hold you all in our thoughts and prayers and look forward to better days ahead. Thanks for your work: it is a great service.

Well, it's certainly good to hear everything is ok, like others, I was wondering if things were alright after the last update. I hope so! I never expected to see such a raucous event in the senate but magas always rise to present the worst.

As far as violence goes did anyone expect different after the last five years? Violence and "fake" are what the cult of trumpers do, and they're off like a racehorse throwing blame at the "other side", this morning. Despicable deplorables, every one of them.

People died yesterday, that should serve as notice that "no bridge is too far" when magas are on course to TAKE WHAT THEY WANT. That's all that matters to the cult. Take care and stay safe Amee, later.

Happy to hear you're safe and sorry that you have to remain anxious and vigilant for the next 13 days. The GOP has to answer for their abdication of their duty to protect and defend. Trump should be removed now.

Forgot to mention. DC is my birthplace and my family still resides in the area. Before covid, I’d travel 2 x yr to see family, friends. It kills me that trump made this happen but that it happened in DC -infuriates me.

I wanna see the book thrown at this Motus.

Meanwhile, we need your voice. Hugs,Amee. 💙

Aimee, so glad you're safe and I too, didn't realize you lived in D.C. My sister lives there while attending Georgetown Law school so I got to visit a few times and love the city. Very smart preparedness plan. I'd suggest duplicating go bag in home for car. Best advice my law man uncle ever gave me was, "You can't prepare enough for the unexpected."

I know you say you're not prepared to accept the complicity of some Capitol Police officers but I hope you keep in mind that they are a police org just as every other one in nation. The police dept in Louisville, KY is no different than the one in Los Angeles, CA when it comes to white supremacy.

I'm looking forward to your further reflections, research, and insights.

Thanks for writing from the heart, Amee. I haven’t gotten out of my pajamas all day, so exhausted & drained from yesterday.

Please take good care of yourself. Moms worry about our daughters in careers where work can get dark sometimes or is just too much all at once.

I still have to believe, when all is finally said and done w this criminal admin, we will find, we can and will be better than this again ... ☮️💟 - Mom Swanson

Great article Amee. You captured the infuriating hypocrisy and anarchy on one side and frustration and rage on the other.

There MUST be consequences for everyone who took part directly or indirectly!
